Spiritual Life at Friends School Kamusinga
Friends School Kamusinga, founded in 1956 by the Quaker Mission and sponsored by the Elgon Religious Society of Friends, is built on a strong Christian foundation. Guided by its Christian ethos, the school integrates spiritual principles into all aspects of its academic and co-curricular programs, fostering an environment where faith, character, and academic excellence go hand in hand.
Key Spiritual Programs and Practices:
- 1. Inter-dominations Sunday Services: Every Sunday, the entire school community, including the school principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and visitors, gathers for inter-dominations Sunday services. Renowned preachers from across the country are invited to fellowship with the school family, providing spiritual guidance and inspiration.
- 2. Saturday CU Fellowship: Held every Saturday from 7pm to 10pm, the CU Fellowship is open to the entire school community. The fellowship features teachings on holy living, Christian movies screenings, and opportunities for students to grow in their faith and fellowship with one another.
- 3. Weekend Challenge: An annual event in the first term after the reporting of Form Ones, the Weekend Challenge is a dedicated time for students to focus on God and give thanks. Activities during the weekend include evangelism, preaching, devotional sessions, salvation, and deliverance.
- 4. Revival Weekend: Held once every term on Saturdays, Revival Weekend is a time for the school community to commit their ways to the Lord and seek spiritual renewal and guidance for the term ahead.
- 5. House and Class Worship Programs: Class Worships, managed by class pastors, occur daily at the beginning and end of preps. Additionally, every house is assigned a Sunday within the term to present hymns of praise to the Lord, fostering spiritual growth and fellowship.
- 6. Bible Study: Held every Sunday from 4pm to 5pm, Bible Study sessions involve topical biblical teachings and discussions using guidebooks from KCSF, enriching students' understanding of Scripture and strengthening their faith.
- 7. General Devotions: Daily morning and evening devotions are held by students in the Moi Resource Center, providing opportunities for personal reflection and prayer. Furthermore, Christian Union members engage in prayer and fasting sessions every Wednesday and Friday at lunch hour, interceding for themselves, the school, and the nation.
Inclusivity and Respect for Diversity:
Recognizing and respecting the diversity of faiths among the student body, Friends School Kamusinga ensures that students from different religious backgrounds, particularly the Muslim community, are accommodated and supported in accordance with their beliefs and expectations. The school strives to create an inclusive environment where all students can feel valued, respected, and spiritually nourished.
